Steps

  1. Pick a site and mount the anemometer and compass in the weatherproof enclosure at a steady height.
  2. Program the Arduino to log wind speed and direction to the microSD card every minute.
  3. Collect at least 2 to 4 weeks of data.
  4. Fit a Weibull distribution to your wind speed data in Excel or Python.
  5. Estimate yearly energy output for a small turbine using its power curve and your wind data.
  6. Write a wind resource report with a wind rose chart and document it for your portfolio.

What to photograph for your portfolio

  • Wind speed distribution
  • power curve analysis
  • monthly forecast
  • Weibull fit
  • resource report
