Steps

  1. Sketch the control system and decide your target speeds and ramp times.
  2. Wire the VFD, tachometer, soft starter, and LCD, keeping mains wiring fully enclosed and fused.
  3. Program speed ramps for smooth starts and stops and display live RPM on the LCD.
  4. Compare a hard start against your soft-start ramp and measure the speed overshoot of each.
  5. Log run time and speed data and set a simple alert that flags when a maintenance check is due.
  6. Summarize the results and document the build for your portfolio.

What to photograph for your portfolio

  • Speed ramp curves
  • mechanical stress reduction
  • maintenance alerts
  • operational logs
