Grid Frequency & Voltage Monitoring System

Intermediate 4 weeks 30-40 hours

Monitor grid frequency and voltage quality in real-time using Arduino. Detect anomalies. Alert on violations of standards. Create grid quality report.

Safety: Involves mains/AC or high-current power. Work only under instructor supervision, use proper isolation, fusing, and PPE. Prefer low-voltage or simulated sources where possible.

Steps

  1. Review AC safety and use an isolated, enclosed voltage sensor with instructor supervision.
  2. Wire the ZMPT101B sensor, frequency meter, SD card module, and LCD to the Arduino.
  3. Program the Arduino to calculate RMS voltage and frequency and log them every second.
  4. Set alert thresholds based on standard voltage and frequency limits.
  5. Log data for several days and flag every event outside the limits.
  6. Create a grid quality report and document the project for your portfolio.

What to photograph for your portfolio

  • Frequency trend plots
  • voltage profiles
  • anomaly detection alerts
  • quality report
  • compliance verification
